I am planning on getting this phone and was wondering if it is possible to disable the data part over the verizon link and only use wifi. Verizon offers the phone without dataplan so I want to use wifi only.
so, is it possible ? and if so, how ?

thanks in advance.

Though there are reg tweaks and options in Advanced Configuration (see Master App Thread) to disable the data connection, as well as spoofing the dial number in the data settings - none of them seem to be fool proof.

More often then not, the settings don't stick and you'll get a surprise bill for data (Except for Airplane Mode).

I highly recommend getting an unlimited data package to fully enjoy all the features of the phone. The phone is full of programs that poll the internet connection (updates to various programs, email, weather, rss, and a lot of third-party software that has an auto-updater built in).

Yes, Settings/Comm Manager ... turn WiFi on, turn Data Connection Off ... works great

I agree with atomic, I use the connection away from wifi all the time! Plus wifi drains the battery, so I don't use it as much. I'm sure verizon or your carrier will somehow find a way to charge you, their sneaky like that  Wink

Double check with Verizon b/c from my understanding, they are not allowing any new smartphones to be purchased with a new contract/renewal contract without the data plan.  You might have to just buy the phone at cost.

On a side note, when this wasn't the case, I called Verizon with my old smartphone and asked them to block my dataplan so that there wasn't a chance that it would connect when I didn't purchase the plan.  The only bad part about that is that I couldn't rec' pix msg.  I noticed that I really only used the phone as a phone, calendar, and address book.  I def didn't utilize the smartphone like it should have been used.

I will say that having the data plan on this phone is fantastic and it seems that the only reason to really get this phone is the browsing and data access at all times!!
