Tell us what you're looking for in a phone and then we can answer that.  What did you not like about g1?

as TMerC said tell us what you want with a phone cause without that info
i think most guests and registered users here will tell you to get the mobile
not just because its beautiful outside but because the inside is beautiful aswell.
none of us can be objective without knowing the goal

but as an answer as the query is now ... run like the wind and buy it Cool

the tp2 makes a jingle when you start it when youve powered it off (its propably changeable though)
cant say that the tp2 has dropped any calls for me yet in 3G so that part is a plus atleast
the menu for the tp2 is changeable, you can turn of the tf3d and run with windows original shell or buy a shell from psb(always forget their name something w 3 letters 8P ) and there probably 2 tons of skins out there for tf3d that hasnt been found yet Cool

the nokia N97 got a killer camera probably and as a former nokia fanboy I would still get this one Cool
Ive run with nokia until 1 and a half year ago when I got my first qtek 9100 and realized this is the way to heaven in phone form.
and with all the new functions ms has brewing for winmo Its just gona get more interesting Cool

to G1 defence well atleast they did a tiny revolution so now there are mac fans google fans and erh ms fans hm that just sounds wierd ms users ahh thats more like it

but if Im not mistaken I think there was someone here on the forum that is to uppgrade from a android phone to tp2 or go back to the new hero.

but as a final word
nokia they made good phones until 3G wich they dont seem to be able to handle to well so would recommend against them even though I still like them 8P
go for tp2, hero or iphone 3GS (I vote for the tp2 though)

I like windows mobile because everything is customizable.  Thats why I vote for WM.  BTW, it is called SPB Mobile Shell and costs around $30.  TouchFlo comes with the phone and is exceptionally well in itself.

Agreed.

Also, please don't title your subject "please help".  its too ambiguous.  "Deciding between G1 and TP2" is a much better title.

Ya, but it gets annoying trying to find a certain thread with good info if there are 20 threads labeled please help!

Back on topic, the G1 is a much older phone.  It has been compared to the predecessor of the TP2, the touch pro.  Since you got the phone for free, the only reason I wouldn't switch is because of a contract, or I didn't have the money since the TP2 is quite expensive.

Nevermind that last part.  Check this out instead.  http://www.alltouchpro2.com/index.php?topic=260.0  It might help you decide.

I'm actually surprised our G1 friend is getting some good objectivity here.  You won't find that too often out of the iPhone fanboys.

As for the suggestion for the iPhone 3gs, I wouldn't suggest that to anyone that cares about a hardware keyboard, so we'd need to know if the OP cares about that or not.  Me, I have the iPod Touch 2nd gen, and while I like it for what it does, even if you threw a cellular radio in it I wouldn't use it to replace my Treo 800w, let alone the TP2 which I'm still stoked about getting (as soon as Sprint has it).

Also, since the latest OS update, I've found my iPod Touch is more sluggish than it used to be.  So even the mighty Apple can have issues (a bit of sarcasm there).  Smiley

Ya.  People really don't know about it, but Macs crash more than PCs.  It just isn't publicized as much.  I've had more problems with macs than pcs.

I just try to be open minded, and get what works for me.  My most used computer is my Vista 64 laptop.  I didn't like Vista when it first came out, but I've found the 64bit version is very stable and quick for the hardware Toshiba gives me.  My desktop is a Mac Mini.  I've upgraded the memory myself (that was a chore) to 2GB onboard now, and it's a very stable device.  Really, I consider both to be very stable, and only the occasional program will crash.  My iPod is the device that has its ups and downs.  The latest OS upgrade just wasn't worth it to me, and I wish I hadn't paid to upgrade.  I've tried one time to rent a video directly on the iPod, and it downloaded but never went to my Video folder, and Apple hasn't ever responded to my complaint that I didn't get the product.  Also, this Google talk thing with Apple has soured me on them right now.  I used to dislike Microsoft a lot because of their business practices, but I think they've begun to show they are learning their lessons.  Apple needs to start learning some of those lessons now too.  I hate the bullying and monopolistic approach from any company.
