I am curious to know if I am hurting the phone by leaving it on at night? I have always left it on with the screen off of course. Is it better for the phone (prolong the life of the cell phone) if you turn it off at night? Is there an alternative way to turning the phone off such as sleep mode? Thanks for the help

I usually use my phone during the day and charge it during the night. Since we don't have a land line - I leave it on (hybernate/screen off). I still have phones from years ago that work.

My verdict: you don't have to turn your phone completely off at night, it won't harm it.

I don't think it hurts the phone especially with the screen off.  That is sort of like a "sleep" option except there is still an active data connection.

I always leave the phone on and screen off.  Every phone I have ever owned.

I think there was a thread somewhere talking about Lithium-Ion batteries.  We eventually came to the conclusion that the batteries degenerate with the only factor being the heat it is exposed to.  So keeping it on at night wont affect it too much.  However, there is still some debate on this topic.

Thanks for everyone's input. I was a little scared of leaving it on at night since it is sort of an expensive phone. I'm gonna keep it on now without fear haha
