Standard Raise - How Much to Raise?

Have you ever wondered how much you should raise when you enter a hand? A beginning player should raise the common amount or standard raise amount for the table. This amount generally is three or four times the size of the Big Blind and can be higher depending on the players at the table.

For example:

The Big Blind is $2, one should raise to at least $6 and up to $8. If you've seen most of the players at the table raising to $8 then make it $8 for your opponets to call. If you see more of the players raising to $10 as the "standard raise" even though it's more than four times the Big Blind, it's probably a good amount to raise for you too so make it $10 for the players to call.

Just remember that big raises are harder to get away from after the flop or even pre flop, so play your hand with a purpose and be sensible about your raises.
